The 3 day Nottingham Acting Course
Since 1986 The Poor School, in King’s Cross, London, has run affordable Two Year Training for actors, scheduled largely in the evenings and at weekends. Always in the top ten UK Acting Schools who’s graduates get representation and work, it is has an international reputation that attracts students from around the world for both the 2 year training and short course. The 3 day Acting course is adapted from the 4 day Course held at the school in London and delivered by the same tutors who run the 2 year full time training. Since 2007 over 1000 people have attended these short courses. Some wanted to be actors, others wanted to spend a time in a different world. We have seen solicitors, pilots, train drivers, senior policemen, entrepreneurs, ex-footballers, models, TV presenters, housewives, stuntmen, businessmen.
The age range is teenage to sixties and the average is 34. No-one, consequently, cares about age. Most have little or no experience, some do . Everyone and anyone willing to work hard and turn up on time can participate. An ideal introduction for anyone considering the 3 week Summer Couse or 2 year Training, for which the 3 day course can be an extended audition.
The course consists of a series of classes in the basics of acting training; Voice, Movement, and Singing. You are given a short contemporary scene on your first day, and these are shown to colleagues and staff on the final afternoon. There are classes on, Stage Fighting, Jazz and Dialect.
Nothing is dumbed down and you will receive the same quality, level and intensity of training as professional actors on the full time course.
There is no audition. Entrance is by enrolment. We cater for all level of fitness
